INTRODUCTION

               In these next scriptures, we at VAL-TE’ believe refers to human-invented teachings and practices that deviate from God’s truth, rooted in desire to define right and wrong independently of divine guidance. Then the Pharisees and some of the scribes come together to Him, having come from Jerusalem. Now when they saw some of His disciples eat bread with defiled, that is, with unwashed hands, they found fault. For the Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they wash their hands in a special way, holding the tradition of the elders. When they come from the marketplace, they do not eat unless they wash. And there are many other things which they have received and hold, like the washings of cups, pitchers, copper vessels, and couches. Then the Pharisees and scribes asked Him, “Why do Your disciples not walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashed hands?” He answered and said to them, “Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written: ‘This people honor Me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me. And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ For laying aside the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men – the washing of pitchers and cups, and many other such things you do.” He said to them, “All too well you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your tradition. For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother;’ and, ‘He who curses father or mother, let him be put to death.’ But you say, ‘If a man says to his father or mother, “Whatever profit you might have received from me is Corban” –‘ (that is, a gift to God), then you no longer let him do anything for his father or mother, making the word of God of no effect through your tradition which you have handed down. And many such things you do.” Mark 7: 1-13 NKJV

Biblical Word

               TRADITION OF MEN – Formerly, when you did not know God, you were slaves to those who by nature are not gods. But now that you know God – or rather are known by God – how is it that you are turning back to those weak and miserable principles? Do you wish to be enslaved by them all over again? You are observing special days and months and seasons and years! I fear for you, that somehow I have wasted my efforts on you. Galatians 4: 8-11 NIV

Their religion is nothing but human rules and traditions, which they have simply memorized. So I will startle them with one unexpected blow after another. Significance

               Man-Made Spirituality (Intentional, repeated actions that act as a bridge between daily life and a deeper sense of purpose of connection to something larger than oneself) – We at VAL-TE’ also believe focuses on doing specific task to earn favor, while a direct, loving connection with God on being in a relationship. The belief that if we follow the rules, such as taking a moment of silence before eating to practice gratitude, we will be rewarded or accepted. Authority is placed on institutions, books, or leaders telling us how to behave, rather than an inner, personal experience. Often emphasize guilt, wrongdoing, and the fear of punishment if rules are broken. It is a do this, get that, mentality, seeking to secure safety or favor from God.
