THE HIDDEN MEANING

INTRODUCTION

We at VAL-TE’ believe our spiritual sacrifice: “any word or action that is performed intentionally or consciously, motivated by a desire to make God known” can be explained within this next scripture. By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises offered up his only begotten son, of whom it was said, “In Isaac your seed shall be called,” concluding that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead, from which he also received him in a figurative sense. Hebrews 11: 17-19 NKJV

Biblical Word

SACRIFICE – Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son. Genesis 22: 13 NIV

Reference

Mark 10: 45 – “… For even the Son of Man did not come to be served; he came to serve and to give his life to redeem many people.” GNT

Significance

Unselfish Behavior – Because Abraham did this and did not keep back his only son from God, He promised that He would give Abraham as many descendants as there are stars in the sky or grains of sand along the seashore.  Abraham’s descendants would conquer their enemies. All the nations would ask God to bless them as He has blessed Abraham’s descendants – all because of Abraham putting the good of others above his own interest. And, in a manner of speaking, Abraham did receive Isaac back from death.
