SEPARATING THE SPIRITUAL FROM THE PHYSICAL

THE HIDDEN MEANING

INTRODUCTION

In these next scriptures, we at VAL-TE’ believe in having the Spirit that God breath into Adam living within us, transforming him from a formed physical being into the spiritual part of a person, that some people believe continues to exist in some form after their physical body has died, giving a unique spiritual dimension beyond mere physical existence. But someone will say, “How are the dead raised up? And with what body do they come?” Foolish one, what you sow is not made alive unless it dies. And what you sow, you do not sow that body that shall be, but mere grain – perhaps wheat or some other grain. But God gives it a body as He pleases, and to each seed its own body. All flesh is not the same flesh, but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of animals, another of fish, and another of birds. There are also celestial bodies and terrestrial bodies; but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another. There is one glory of the sun, another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for one star differs from another star in glory. So also is the resurrection of the dead. The body is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption. It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power. It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is spiritual body. And so it is written, “The first man Adam became a living being.” The last Adam became a life-giving spirit. However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural, and afterward the spiritual. The first man was of the earth, made of dust; the second Man is the Lord from heaven. As was the man of dust, so also are those who are made of dust; and as is the heavenly Man, so also are those who are heavenly. And as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly Man. 1 Corinthians 15: 35-49 NKJV

Biblical Word

SPIRITUAL – You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of the Son of God, he does not belong to the Son of God. But if the Son of God is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness. And if the Spirit of him who raised Immanuel from the dead is living in you, he who raised the Son of God from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you. Romans 8: 9-11 NIV

Reference

2 Corinthians 5: 1-5 – For we know that when this tent we live in – our body here on earth – is torn down, God will have a house in heaven for us to live in, a home he himself has made, which will last forever. And now we sigh, so great is our desire that our home which comes from heaven should be put on over us; by being clothed with it we shall not be without a body. While we live in this earthly tent, we groan with a feeling of oppression; it is not that we want to get rid of our earthly body, but that we want to have the heavenly one put on over us, so that what is mortal will be transformed by life. God is the one who has prepared us for this change, and he gave us his Spirit as the guarantee of all that he has in store for us. GNT

Significance

The Guarantee (Life after death) – We at VAL-TE’ also believe signifies the beginning of human life and union of the physical body with the spiritual part of a person, that some people believe continues to exist in some form after their physical body has died. The act of God’s Spirit breathing into Adam’s nostrils, is a symbolic representation of God filling with the spiritual aspect. Suggests that people of faith are not simply living their own lives, but are living a life that is guided, inspired, and motivated by God. The breath of life is not just the physical act of breathing, but God’s active presence and interaction with creation or Spirit that gives Adam life and consciousness.
